“Share your blessings, share your wealth, share what you have.” – Tiesta Tea’s President, Patrick Tannous

With our Spread The Warmth event less than one month away, we are absolutely ecstatic about the amount of volunteers that have signed up, the TONS of generous donations we have received and the wonderful support we are being given from the community. We are well on our way to DOUBLING our efforts from last year and will hopefully be able to reach our goal of warming 1,000 hearts & giving out 300 Warmth Kits!

So far, we have collected over 70 Warmth Kits that were donated from individuals in our community and over 70 volunteers will be joining us to pass out hot tea and Warmth Kits. In addition, we have received generous donations from Think Jerky, Button & Zipper, Fred Water, Jewel-Osco, Westin Hotels, Dietz & Watson, Accion, Chicago Beverage Company, Spice Adams and Big Time Products that will be essential in helping us fill up more Warmth Kits. Every little bit helps and there will always be more hearts to warm. So we are asking for your help. If you have any toiletries, blankets or warm clothing items to donate please click here. Thanks to everyone who attended and donated to Spread The Warmth during our Tiesta Tea 2016 Holiday Party clothing drive!

By the way, did we mention that former Chicago Bears defensive tackle, Anthony ‘Spice’ Adams, will be one of our volunteers? So if you are going to pass out tea or drive during the event, you are in for a special treat!

We are so excited for our 2nd Annual Spread the Warmth event and CANNOT WAIT until January 20th, 2017 when we get to help spread a little warmth and a little love throughout Chicago.

Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits with Mai Tea Mai Tai

Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits provided the alcohol for our Mai Tea Mai Tai

Last week, we participated in an incredible charity event hosted by our non-profit partner, Common Threads. Common Threads is a non-profit organization that educates children on the importance of healthy eating through after-school cooking and nutrition programs. We’re all about encouraging everyone to Live Loose and be the best version of themselves they can be, so we love their mission and it was an honor to be a part of Common Threads’s Sixth Annual Cook-off fundraiser. It was an incredible experience, and we met tons of amazing chefs and mixologists right in our backyard!

World Teachers Day

We love TEAchers! (Sorry, we just couldn’t resist!)

We’re so grateful for all that our teachers have done for us over here at Tiesta Tea. In fact, they’re the reason we are here today!

Teachers are the reason any of us in this world have gotten where we are today- they are the wonderful people with whom we spend most of our waking hours outside of the home, and they shape us to be who we are. Luckily, our founders, Dan and Patrick, were fortunate enough to have teachers that inspired them to pursue their innate entrepreneurial spirit and do what seemed impossible: start a loose leaf tea company as college students!

Our Cocoa Chili Pumpkin Breakfast

Breakfast just got a lot more interesting this October! Using our brewed Cocoa Chili Pumpkin tea in pancake batter will give those fluffy clouds of delight a subtle sweet & spicy taste that will keep you coming back for more.

Just use our brewed Cocoa Chili Pumpkin tea instead of water, mix it up with the standard pancake batter ingredients and then start pouring the batter onto a griddle. You know those “just add water” mixes? Nope! Just add tea! In no time you will have golden brown pancakes ready for those crisp autumn mornings!

Cocoa Chili Pumpkin Tea

Chocolate + Chili Peppers + Pumpkin!

On January 22nd 2016, Tiesta Tea gathered together with friends, family, and community members to Spread the Warmth to those in need throughout Chicago. Over 70 volunteers joined together in the Tiesta Tea headquarters and banded together and headed out to the cold streets and social service agencies throughout the city, such as soup kitchens and homeless shelters. There, we passed out over 500 cups of hot tea and 150 Warmth Kits. Each cup of tea was personally brewed by the Tiesta Tea team and each of the 150 Warmth Kits was filled with warm clothing donated by friends and family, sandwiches and water bottles donated by Jewel-Osco, protein bars donated by Raw Revolution, as well as hygiene kits (soap, shampoo, & conditioner) and blankets donated by Westin Hotels. Not only did volunteers share hot tea and warmth with those in soup kitchens and homeless shelters, but most importantly we were able to share countless smiles and conversations.

Check out our video recapping our first annual Spread the Warmth Night right here! Spread the Warmth would not have been possible without our team, our corporate partners, our families, our friends, and our entire Chicago community. THANK YOU to everyone who donated, volunteered, and shared the love with us!

Missed the first one? That’s ok! We’re making this an annual event here in Chicago! Spread the Warmth Night 2017 will be on Friday January 27th at 5pm. Mark your calendars and sign up using this link! We’ll keep you in the loop with any/all Spread the Warmth news and updates.

Cheers to Spreading the Warmth and making a difference!

It’s that time of year again. Resolution time. Chances are, there’s one bouncing around in your head. Well, we’re two weeks in. How you doin’?

One of my favorite mantras is: “A year from now, you’ll wish you had started today.” Whoever originally said that, kudos to them. So in the spirit of not giving up, of starting now, and of Living Loose, here I am with my take on 5 New Year’s Resolutions That Tea Will Help With.

Lose Weight/Exercise More – Green tea’s your go-to!
– Looking to lose a few? Green tea naturally increases your metabolism and helps speed up how your body breaks down and uses fat.
– Going for those 10,000 steps? Tea hydrates. Toss a pitcher of iced tea in your fridge, so you can hydrate before and after the gym. Healthy & Refreshing.

Eat Healthy – Means drinking healthy too. With tea, there’s no sugar, no calories, no sodium, no carbs. Just health benefits.
– Replace one 150 calorie drink with zero calorie tea every day for a year, and you’ll kick over 54,000 calories (aka 15 pounds)
– Replace one sugary drink (avg 46g sugar) with sugar free tea every day for a year, and you’ll kick over 40 pounds of sugar from your diet
– Replace on medium soft drink with tea every day for a year, and you’ll eliminate 6,935mg of sodium from your diet

Spend Less, Save More. – Tea can save your wallet.
Loose Life tea = $.30 per cup.
Fancy cafe coffee = $4.
Make the switch to tea every day for a year? Yep, you just saved over $1,300.

Give Back – We’ve all got something (time, talent, etc) that we can give.
Including us at Tiesta Tea. Through our Loose Change initiative, we partner with 4 non-profits throughout the year. With every cup of tea, you’re helping give back!

Spend More Time With Family/Loved Ones – This one is my favorite.
– Invite them over for a cup! It’s a perfect excuse to get comfy and chat.
– Make tea an after school routine in place of (or alongside) an after-school snack.
Got a kiddo out of the nest? Have a mug ready when they come home. This is my favorite way to catch up with my parents (shout out to Burl and Christy!).
– “Let’s grab tea sometime!” Since when did “grabbing a coffee” become code for a not-too-intimidating first date? Offering to grab tea shows more of your personality and gives you an excuse for that I-don’t-know-if-this-is-a-date date.
– Take someone tea when they’re sick. Personal example: my bf came down with a cold and wasn’t feeling up for a date. So, I brought over my tea and brewmaster. We were still able to spend time together while brewing and while sipping our tea on the couch.

So, pick one, pick all five, or create your own. Part of Living Loose is being the best version of yourself you can be. And tea can help.

Cheers To Living Loose In 2016,

One of the most frequent questions I hear is, “What’s the difference between loose life and bagged?” Excellent question! There is a difference, and I’m so glad you asked!

With Loose Life Tea, you get a lot more of the good stuff.
Health Benefits

Here’s why. Bagged tea is processed differently than loose life tea. That dust in a bag? How do you think it fits in the bag? It has to be chopped up very finely (more elegantly called the Cut, Tear, Curl process). When it’s chopped into tiny pieces, it creates more surface area per life. Think back to your science class days. More surface area means more space for the life to release all the health benefits and flavor. On the other hand, loose life tea hasn’t gone through that same chopping process. Instead, the life stays in tact, so it holds onto all the wonderful health benefits and flavor until it unfurls in your brewmaster.

Your tea’s freshness is also affected. We already know you’re not going to get the same flavor and health benefits in bagged tea, but to top things off, the lesser flavor won’t hang on as long either. The typical shelf life for bagged tea is around 6 months. Meanwhile, as long as you keep your loose life tea in an airtight container, it’s shelf life lasts over a year and a half.

So if you’re someone who likes flavor, health benefits, and fresh tea, (and something tells me you are) loose life tea is the only way to go. After all, once you go loose, you never go bagged!

Drink Loose, Live Loose,

It’s almost here. The day of hearts, cards, chocolate, and gushy songs. Whether you’re planning a night with your special someone, a night with your galentines, or a night with your couch, these cookies have got you covered. Want to stir up some passion? Pick up Passion Berry Jolt. An all-forms-of-chocolate kind of night? Sub in Creme Au Chocolate instead. And because we love you, look out for a Valentine’s Day sale soon. Cheers, Valentine!
